Five main strategies will help us achieve the goals of ILIMALETHU, and these are:
Utilizing members that are fully accepted by communities as facilitators. The latter will then harness the skills of their colleagues to assist communities identify projects and local resources. |
Focusing on the poorest of provinces, namely, the Eastern Cape, on a pilot basis; and using a lead project on orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). We will then use the project to launch the organization nationally, and assist other provinces that may want to establish their own chapter of ILIMALETHU. |
Training and empowering communities through exposure to other similar projects; meetings and workshops on project management, team building, and fund-raising skills; mentoring of appropriate community structures; AND setting a maximum period of four years for the empowerment.
Using the catalytic project or lead project as an entrance point to address other development needs in communities. (As an example, the OVC Project in the Chris Hani District will be used as an entrance point for control of HIV/AIDS and TB in the district). |
Encouraging universities, research institutions, and Government departments to monitor key indicators of development in communities that have been assisted. The indicators for millennium development goals (MDGs) will be very important in this regard. |
It should be noted that the geographical spread of any given community may be by district, local municipality, ward, or sub-sections of these units of administration.
